Premiere, 1957. Some consider Stuart Davis’ work that of a proto-pop artist, a pre-cursor to the Warhols and other artists to come that would comment heavily on pop culture. Davis was the youngest artist to participate in the 1913 exhibition of modern art in New York, a real innovator in his day. Premiere was inspired by product packaging, and is an exercise in what he called color composition. (Taken with instagram)
